Also during this time of soul evolution, Micaela began exploring South American Medicine Music and became a ceremony musician which led her most recently on a life changing journey to Brazil with her daughter to learn music from the Yawanawa and Huni Kuin tribes. While in flux, she expanded her sonic palette to include electronic elements into her genre-bending style and made a home studio where she learned to produce beats and record using Logic Pro X. She now is working with James Julian Villa in Portland, Oregon on her newest recordings blending all she has learned into songs meant to heal as well as get people moving by weaving acoustic elements into electro-pop tapestry. Micaela's previous five albums with her band Flypaper and her two prior solo albums are also planned to be remastered for an upcoming re-release on all streaming platforms in 2026.

As a studio musician she has recently recorded collaborations with Yaima, Rafe Pearlman, Luke Rain, Max Ribner, Hannah Leigh, and Andy Fischer-Price. Her own music combines all of these diverse influences into an eclectic global synthesis incorporating classical and electric guitar, mandolin, harp, electronic folk pop and medicine music with her instantly recognisable vocal style.

Despite all odds stacked against this hard working mother, the music went on and now you can find her and her adult daughter Aurora playing shows together with a harmonic resonance only found in familial bone structures. Micaela continues to teach people how to find the music in their souls as well as nurturing their bodies and spirits with her work as a multidimensional sound healer.

Micaela recorded her next solo album “My Way Home” finally feeling like she had found her place in the world in the artistically rich community of Port Townsend, Washington just before the pandemic hit.  Throughout that time of global uncertainty she was in search of something new and found an online certification in Vocal Yoga with renowned vocal teacher Heather Lyle. Shortly thereafter she began teaching and further developing this innovative form of vocal instruction by blending her own unique intuitive healing modalities with somatic movement and energy work.  After this time of introspection, she was led on a profound healing journey through Mexico and South America working with plant medicines and was later called to Turkey to travel with a caravan of The Dances of Universal Peace to work with people throughout the Middle East helping hundreds of people to strengthen their voices for their work against the injustices forced on women in Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Micaela has continued to travel the world teaching people from all backgrounds how to open their voices, and over three years of experimentation she developed her unique method which combines intuitive energy work, vocal warm ups, and somatic movement into an innovative synthesis she calls Vocal Embodiment.

THE LONG STORY

Born into a musical family in Taos, New Mexico, Micaela began playing violin and piano at age 3, recorded her first tracks at age 5 with her parents, and began composing and performing her original music by the time she was 9 in Austin Texas while also singing in the famous Austin Girls Choir.  After picking up guitar when she was 10 when the family moved to Michigan, she realized that she could learn music by ear and soon began teaching songs to her friends and their parents. Micaela has often felt that it would be easier to communicate in musical tones rather than verbal language as music is the essence of her soul and comprises the fabric of her thoughts.

The future was looking bright, but life happens—as it does—and in order to make ends meet while raising her daughter Aurora as a single mother, Micaela began teaching music full time while continuing to pursue her dreams as a musician. She played in wedding cover bands, worked as a studio musician, and performed countless shows, interspersed with teaching thousands of music lessons—never giving up even when things got tough. She was determined to show her daughter that despite all odds, she would follow her passion. In 2009 Micaela recorded her first solo album "Still" after receiving the Emerging Artist's grant in Kalamazoo Michigan because she wanted to have her music available for her daughter to listen to.

Micaela is equally comfortable with the funky and folksy as well as the bluesy and soulful having soaked up the vocal styles of Norah Jones, India Arie, Fiona Apple and Erykah Badu with the guitar sensibilities of Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana along with an obsession for three part harmonies, she formed the band Fly Paper, needing a name that would stick as she expanded her musical territory touring throughout the US during the summer between school sessions.

She was quoted to be "the Female Jimi Hendrix" while making her rounds opening for legends like B.B King and Keb' Mo' and pushing the boundaries of blues music with her funky mix of original blues-rock. She gained a huge following while living in Michigan but after years of touring and teaching 40+ students a week, she was burned out and it was time to make a big change so she decided to move with Aurora to Washington to be closer to her parents in 2015.

Micaela Kingslight is a multi-dimensional sound healer who mixes conscious songwriting and bumpin’ beats with an extensive array of acoustic and electric instruments to create a symbiotic blend of folk, blues, and soul with electro-pop sensibilities. The result is a sensual sound that makes you want to move your body. A seasoned performer, Micaela has toured extensively across the U.S. and the Americas both as a solo artist and as part of the folk/medicine trio Three Wheels Turning. She has collaborated with Yaima, Rafe Pearlman, Luke Rain, Max Ribner, James Rian O'Keeffe and Andy Fischer-Price along with many others.

She is currently crafting a new album of soul stirring songs with new tracks being released worldwide the last Wednesday of every month in 2025.  Micaela is also a lifelong music educator and has recently developed an innovative Vocal Embodiment course which can show you how to open your voice to its full strength and power through the combined power of vocalization and somatic movement. You can enroll here. Additionally, Micaela is also a gifted intuitive energy healer.
